"there is no wall" Did OpenAI just crack AGI?

Some reports suggest that progress in artificial intelligence (AI) is slowing down because making models bigger isn't leading to big improvements anymore. They mention that OpenAI's next model, called "Orion," doesn't perform much better than the previous one, especially in coding tasks.

However, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, disagrees, saying "There is no wall." Other experts also believe AI progress is still strong, pointing to recent successes like solving complex math problems and teaching robots new tasks.

A lawsuit between Elon Musk and Sam Altman led to the release of emails revealing OpenAI's early days. The messages show discussions about forming a non-profit organization to develop artificial intelligence (AI)—computers that can perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence—for humanity's benefit. They highlight concerns about AI safety and competition with tech giants like Google.

Tensions arose over who would control the direction of OpenAI, particularly between Musk and other leaders. Worried about AI power being too concentrated, Musk eventually resigned from the board. OpenAI later be

Elon Musk has expanded his lawsuit against OpenAI—the artificial intelligence company he co-founded—by adding Microsoft as a defendant. He accuses both firms of creating a monopoly in AI, which he says harms competitors like his own company, xAI. Musk claims OpenAI shifted from a non-profit charity into a $157 billion for-profit giant, betraying its original mission. OpenAI denies these allegations, calling them baseless, and notes that Musk previously supported the for-profit model.

Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, declined to comment. The lawsuit also includes LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. Musk alleges they have unfairly profited while misleading him and the public.

Researchers discovered that poems created by artificial intelligence are just as hard to distinguish from those written by famous human poets. In two studies involving over 16,000 people, participants could not reliably tell which poems were AI-generated and often rated AI poems higher in aspects like rhythm and beauty.

Surprisingly, many believed the AI poems were written by humans. The findings suggest that AI poems are clear and easy to understand, making them more appealing and leading readers to mistakenly think they were created by people. This indicates that AI has reached a level of poetry comparable to human creativity.

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is raising up to $6 billion with a valuation of $50 billion, according to CNBC. The funding, expected to close next week, includes $5 billion from Middle Eastern government funds and $1 billion from other investors. This money will buy 100,000 Nvidia chips to power Tesla’s Full Self Driving technology using the new Memphis supercomputer.

Launched in July 2023, xAI introduced a chatbot named Grok to compete with ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. With Donald Trump as president-elect, Musk is working with the new administration to shape AI and technology policies, aiming to repeal Biden’s AI regulations and promote AI development based on free speech and human well-being.

OpenAI once considered buying Cerebras, an AI chip company now going public, according to new legal documents in Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI. In 2017, OpenAI’s co-founder Ilya Sutskever suggested purchasing Cerebras through Tesla, Musk’s electric car company. However, the deal didn’t happen, and OpenAI paused its own chip projects.

Cerebras, based in California, makes specialized chips for AI and is aiming to double its $4 billion value through an IPO. Challenges include heavy reliance on a single investor and the CEO’s past legal issues. OpenAI now plans to develop its own AI chips by 2026 with partners like Broadcom and TSMC.

Coca-Cola has created its first major TV commercials using artificial intelligence. Instead of filming in snowy places like before, the company used advanced AI to make three new versions of their classic “Holidays Are Coming” ad from 1995. One of these new ads, called “Secret Santa,” was shown early at a special event for new technology.

The AI used the images of real actors, but only with their permission. This shows how Coca-Cola is using AI to make advertising easier and more creative without needing to travel to cold locations.

LLaMA-Mesh allows large language models to create and understand 3D shapes by converting shape data into text. This uses the models’ existing spatial knowledge from text sources, enabling interactive 3D design and interpretation. It matches specialized models’ quality while maintaining strong text abilities.

MagicQuill is a smart image editing tool that makes creative changes easy and fast. It has a simple interface where users can add or remove parts, change colors, and more with little effort. A smart language model predicts what the user wants in real time, ensuring precise and high-quality edits.

ClinicalBench tests if large language models (LLMs) can outperform traditional machine learning methods in predicting medical outcomes. Using various tasks and datasets, the study found that LLMs do not yet beat established models like SVM and XGBoost. It advises caution when using LLMs for clinical decisions.

Hermes uses large language models to automate cellular network management by creating digital replicas through clear steps, reducing human input. It handles diverse data and reasoning, advancing toward fully self-operating networks.

The paper investigates consistency models, which simplify complex image generation by reducing steps. The authors create Direct CMs that better solve the underlying mathematical equations but produce lower-quality images. This unexpected result suggests that accurately solving these equations doesn’t always improve the final images, questioning the current approach.
