OpenAI Unveils Jalapeño Chip
PLUS: Perplexity Launches Legal Assistant, OpenAI Upgrades GPT-5.5 Instant and more.

Free Weekly AI Sessions for Experienced Software Engineers.
Every Wednesday at 5 PM CT, Gauntlet AI professors teach a live, hands-on AI engineering session — completely free. If you're nontechnical, this isn't for you. New topic every week, built for engineers who want to build, not just watch. See upcoming sessions.
Today:

OpenAI has officially unveiled its first Intelligence Processor, codenamed "Jalapeño," co-developed with Broadcom and Celestica to optimize LLM inference.
Hardware Efficiency: The chip is a blank-slate design specifically tuned for LLM serving, kernels, and memory movement, promising a substantial leap in performance-per-watt over current state-of-the-art accelerators.
Rapid Development Cycle: The hardware went from initial design to manufacturing tape-out in just nine months — a speed OpenAI achieved by using their own AI models to accelerate the engineering and optimization process.
Deployment Scope: Jalapeño is the foundation of a multi-generation compute platform. It is slated for gigawatt-scale data center deployment with Microsoft and other partners starting in 2026, aiming to lower compute costs and improve reliability for APIs, Codex tasks, and agentic workflows.
Notion has launched Claude agents in beta for its Business and Enterprise tiers, allowing teams to execute complex workflows without leaving their workspace.
Native Execution: The integration brings Claude's software engineering, file-editing, and reasoning capabilities directly into Notion. Agents can work from shared documents and task boards, answer questions, and natively create or update page content.
Security & Permissions: Agents operate strictly within Notion's existing permission framework. They can only view or interact with content that has been explicitly shared with them. The feature is disabled by default for Enterprise and HIPAA accounts.
Data & Billing: Usage is billed through Notion credits rather than requiring a separate Anthropic account. Because the tool relies on Claude Managed Agents (CMA) — which stores session data between requests to maintain context — it is excluded from Notion's zero-data-retention (ZDR) commitments.

Announced at I/O 2026, Google AI Studio is expanding from a rapid prototyping sandbox into a comprehensive, AI-powered application creation platform.
Native Android "Vibe Coding": Developers can now generate production-ready Kotlin code via natural language prompts natively in the browser. The build tab includes an in-browser emulator and direct ADB support for one-click installation to a physical Android device.
Workspace Integration: Apps built within AI Studio can now natively connect to Google Workspace. Builders can create dashboards that run directly on top of Sheets data or spin up tools that organize files in Drive.
Mobile App & Deployment: Google is rolling out an AI Studio mobile application so developers can iterate on code and preview builds on the go. Additionally, to lower the barrier to entry, builders can deploy their first two apps to Google Cloud entirely for free with no credit card required.

Current AI learns by practicing in the real world, which is slow. This paper introduces Qwen-AgentWorld, an AI built to realistically fake seven computer environments—like web browsers and phone screens. By practicing inside this safe, simulated world, other AI assistants learn complex tasks much faster and perform significantly better.
When AI generates 3D scenes from images, it often uses blurry blobs that lack solid surfaces. This paper introduces FLAT, a method that directly builds 3D environments using flat triangles instead. This creates accurate, solid shapes that are instantly ready to be used in video games and computer simulations.
Turning a flat picture into a 3D model often loses small details because the AI struggles to match flat pixels to 3D space. FLUX3D solves this by creating a better way to perfectly line up the 2D image with 3D building blocks, generating incredibly realistic and highly detailed 3D objects.

Perplexity for Legal Teams Perplexity has launched an artificial intelligence tool called "Computer for Counsel" to help lawyers automatically handle paperwork, gather files, and review contracts. It searches trusted legal databases to give instant answers with clear links to the original documents, so lawyers can easily double-check the facts.
OpenAI Upgrades GPT-5.5 Instant OpenAI updated its most popular artificial intelligence tool, GPT-5.5 Instant, to make chatting with it feel much more natural and engaging. The new version is better at understanding exactly what you want, juggling complicated instructions, and giving useful advice for shopping or finding local places. The update is rolling out right now and promises clearer answers without unnecessary formatting.
Google Gemini's New Study Notebooks Google added a "study notebooks" feature to its Gemini app that turns your class notes and outlines into a custom learning plan. It tests what you know to find your weak spots, then creates short, personalized lessons to help you focus on the exact areas you need to improve. You also get a visual dashboard to track your progress in real time, making it easier to study for regular school subjects or major tests like the SAT.
Qwen's AgentWorld Simulator The team behind the Qwen artificial intelligence released "AgentWorld," a new system that acts as a highly realistic practice ground for other computer programs. Instead of testing a new AI in the real world, AgentWorld perfectly fakes environments like computer screens, web browsers, and phone apps to safely see how the AI behaves. This controlled practice space makes it much easier and faster to teach AI assistants how to correctly perform complex tasks on our devices.
