Artists protested OpenAI's Sora early access program by releasing the tool publicly. They argue that OpenAI, a $150B company, exploited around 300 artists for free testing and PR while offering minimal compensation through a film screening competition. The artists criticize the program's strict content approval process and its focus on marketing rather than genuine creative exploration.
While not opposing AI in art, they advocate for open-source alternatives like CogVideoX and Mochi 1, encouraging artists to experiment without corporate restrictions. The protest aims to push OpenAI toward more artist-friendly practices and fair compensation beyond PR initiatives.
Anthropic has introduced a new feature for its Claude AI assistant that lets users customize how the chatbot communicates. The update includes three preset styles - Formal, Concise, and Explanatory - and allows users to create personalized writing styles by uploading sample content.
This feature helps make Claude's responses feel more natural and suitable for different tasks, from technical writing to casual emails. While this update makes AI-generated content less detectable, similar capabilities already exist in competing products like ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Apple Intelligence.
Zoom is rebranding from Zoom Video Communications to Zoom Communications Inc., positioning itself as an "AI-first work platform" rather than just a video conferencing tool. This strategic shift comes as the company faces increased competition from tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Slack, who offer video capabilities within their existing office suites.
The company has expanded beyond its core video service to include comprehensive workplace solutions, including team chat, office productivity apps, and business email. CEO Eric Yuan emphasizes AI integration, with their AI companion 2.0 offering improved summarizing and assistance tools that aim to increase workplace efficiency.
OpenAI has added a new feature called "SearchGPT" to Apple's Shortcuts app for iPhone and iPad users. This tool lets ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers search the internet more effectively through the ChatGPT.
When users tap the shortcut, it opens ChatGPT and starts the web search feature. The system provides links to sources and allows for follow-up questions, making it more useful than standard searches. Free users will get access to this feature in the coming months. The update requires the latest version of the ChatGPT app, which was released recently.
Orange, a French telecom company, is partnering with OpenAI and Meta to develop AI language models for African languages. The project, starting in early 2025, will initially focus on West African languages using OpenAI's Whisper and Meta's Llama models. Orange will contribute language data from its regional experience to improve the AI's learning capabilities.
The initiative has two main goals: enabling customer support in local languages and providing the models for public services like health and education. Orange has also secured direct access to OpenAI's models in Europe. This project addresses the current limitation of AI models, which are primarily trained in English, by expanding their capabilities to include previously underserved languages.
