OpenAI's "supermassive black hole" AI model (4.1)

OpenAI launched GPT-4.1 along with its smaller versions, 4.1 Mini and Nano, offering faster performance, better instruction-following, and improved coding skills. Quazar, once a stealth model, turns out to be part of this release. 

The models include a million-token context window and outperform older versions like GPT-4 and 4.5 in several benchmarks. OpenAI also released a prompt guide and is giving developers free tokens and access to tools like Windsurf during launch week.

Google has introduced DolphinGemma, an AI model that helps decode dolphin communication by analyzing decades of underwater audio from the Wild Dolphin Project. The model identifies patterns in clicks and whistles, with the goal of building two-way interaction. It can now run on smartphones in the field. Combined with the CHAT system, researchers hope to create a shared vocabulary with dolphins — a major step toward understanding another intelligent species.

Nvidia will use its own AI tools for factory automation and “digital twins,” aiming for full-scale production within 12–15 months.

  • Nato has bought an AI-powered battlefield system from Palantir to boost military decision-making and cut down manpower. The system, built in just six months, uses advanced AI to speed up data analysis and mission planning.

  • Meta will begin using public posts and AI interactions from adult users in the EU to train its AI models. Private messages and content from minors are excluded.
