Microsoft Launches Loop, its Notion Competitor, in Public Preview

Microsoft has launched Loop, a task and project management platform that syncs across Microsoft 365 apps and services. Loop includes three main elements: Loop components, Loop pages, and Loop workspaces. Loop components are JavaScript widgets that allow users to collaborate in a flow of work, while Loop pages are flexible canvases where users can organize their components and add elements like links, files, and data. Loop workspaces represent shared platforms where users can group everything important to their projects. Loop also provides syncing capabilities, allowing edits to components to be reflected wherever they are embedded or shared. Loop is in public preview and available to users with a Microsoft Account or Azure Active Directory account.

Introducing Mozilla.ai: Investing in Trustworthy AI

AI is taking the world by storm in 2023, with new tools such as Stable Diffusion and GPT-4 causing excitement but also raising concerns. Mozilla has been working on creating trustworthy AI for some time, and they're now announcing the launch of Mozilla.ai, a startup with an initial $30 million investment, aimed at building a trustworthy and independent open-source AI ecosystem. They plan to focus on creating tools for generative AI and people-centric recommendation systems that prioritize transparency, accountability, and user interests. Mozilla.ai will be led by Moez Draief, with Harvard's Karim Lakhani, Credo's Navrina Singh, and Mozilla's Board as initial members. They aim to bring together like-minded founders, developers, scientists, product managers, and builders to create a decentralized, trustworthy AI ecosystem. Unity Aims to Open Generative AI Marketplace for Video Game Developers

Unity Software plans to open a marketplace for generative AI software for video game developers, according to CEO John Riccitiello. Game developers can use AI products like artwork generators to create assets quickly, without the need to create characters and sound effects from scratch. Riccitiello also noted that generative AI could offer personalized scenarios based on player input. Unity has launched an early access program for developers to use its future AI offerings. This move follows other major software firms announcing generative AI projects to capitalize on what is seen as a game-changing technology.

OpenAI Shut Down ChatGPT to Fix Bug Exposing User Chat Titles

OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, has fixed a bug that allowed a small number of users to see the titles of others' conversation history with the chatbot. As a result, users will not be able to access their chat history between March 20th from 1 am to 10 am PDT. ChatGPT has become popular worldwide, as users have gotten creative with prompts to generate everything from poems to film scripts. Last week, OpenAI launched GPT-4, an AI model upgrade from GPT-3.5, integrated into Microsoft's Bing, which has driven people to the search engine.

Adobe Made an AI Image Generator — and says it Didn't Steal Artists' Work To Do It

Adobe has announced the launch of its AI image generator, Adobe Firefly, which will allow users to type in a prompt and create an image. The company is calling Firefly a beta and will only be available through a website, but the plan is to integrate generative AI tools with Adobe's suite of creative apps. Unlike its competitors, Adobe is transparent about what data its models are trained on, with everything fed to its models being either out of copyright, licensed for training, or in the Adobe Stock library. Adobe is also planning to compensate artists who contribute training data.

Can AI Generate a Way to Pay For Itself?

The article talks about the steep costs of AI and the need to hype it up to attract investors. Only big companies can afford to work in this field because renting compute is cheaper, but cleaning and processing data can cost hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. The AI industry has received $94 billion in investment in 2021, and the promise of AI is to replace expensive, white-collar jobs with cheaper machines. However, adoption has leveled off, and hiring for AI roles has become harder. According to a professor, the real money in AI is in blowing up workflows and replacing them with AI, making jobs that involve pattern recognition and modeling vulnerable. So, consultants and junior associates are at risk.
