Humane’s AI Pin Debut
Coperni introduces the AI Pin at the world's premier fashion event
Today:
The Humane Ai Pin makes its debut on the runway at Paris Fashion Week
Humane, founded by ex-Apple folks back in 2017, has been building anticipation around its mysterious wearable, dubbed the "AI Pin." After keeping things under wraps and raising a hefty sum from big backers like Sam Altman and companies like OpenAI, SoftBank, and Tiger Global Management, they're ready to unveil their invention, set to debut in a big reveal on November 9.
Humane's AI Pin isn’t just a fancy badge. It’s a connected wearable, worn on clothes, designed to bring artificial intelligence into daily experiences, minus a screen. It’s packed with sensors that react to its surroundings and it operates independently, suggesting it could potentially replace the smartphone for some tasks. This wearable made its public debut on supermodel Naomi Campbell at a Paris Fashion Week show, marking its integration with high fashion.
Authors Shocked To Find AI Ripoffs Of Their Books Being Sold On Amazon
Rory Cellan-Jones, a former tech correspondent, found a fake bio of himself on Amazon, and it seems like it was created by a computer. This bogus book was all about his life, but it was just a bunch of made-up stuff. Cellan-Jones wrote a real memoir about discovering his family’s past, and this knockoff was trying to cash in on his hard work.
This isn’t just happening to him, though. Amazon is getting flooded with these fake books, and it’s ticking authors off. These AI-generated books are pretty much spamming Amazon’s shelves, and the company's trying to catch up and clear them out. Some folks, like “Steven Walryn”, were able to publish more than 30 of these phony books, full of nonsense and repetition, before Amazon pulled them down.
Amazon said they’re doing their best to keep these fake books out, and they’re making the people who publish books through their service say if the content is made by AI. They’re also limiting folks to publishing three books a day. The Society of Authors thinks Amazon could do more, like letting readers filter out AI-generated books and labeling them more clearly.
How AI and Brain Science Are Helping Perfumiers Create Fragrances
Perfume-making is going high-tech! While creating scents dates back to ancient Greece, today's scent-makers are teaming up with AI for a fresh twist. They're diving into "neuroscents" - smells that can spark feelings like calmness or joy.
Hugo Ferreira, a brainy dude from Lisbon, is creating a scent "map" based on how our brains react to different odors. Turns out, our sense of smell is super connected to our memories and feelings, explaining why some scents can bring back a flood of memories.
Big beauty brands are all in. L’Oréal, for instance, has a gadget where shoppers wear a headset to find their perfect perfume. Results? 95% of folks nailed their scent choice!
Anthropic partners with BCG
Anthropic's teaming up with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to spread their AI assistant, Claude, to more businesses. BCG’s clients globally will now get to use Claude to juice up their AI strategies and roll out more trustworthy AI tools. BCG’s gonna guide their clients on smart AI uses and help them put Anthropic’s tech to work, tackling everything from market studies to fraud spotting to business analyses.
They’ve joined forces before, showing off the power of creative AI, even to the big leagues at the United Nations. BCG’s also using Claude in-house to speed up research, crunch data in no time, and toss fresh insights to their clients.
OctoAI Llama 2
Before, developers felt kinda boxed in with only one option for text generation, but Llama 2 changed the game. OctoAI got on board and started offering various sizes of Llama 2 for folks to play around with, from small to big.
Now, it's not always about the biggest and baddest model. Depending on what you're doing, you might want a small model for simple tasks like answering questions, or a big one for more complex stuff. OctoAI makes sure devs can see all the options and pick what's best for them.
They've got this thing called "quantization" which makes models run faster by shrinking their size, but sometimes at the cost of a little quality. Also, if you're using the giant Llama 2 70B model, OctoAI found a way to run it on multiple graphics cards for better performance.
Harvard And BCG Unveil The Double-Edged Sword Of AI In The Workplace
Harvard and BCG just dropped some knowledge on AI at work. This tech, think of it as a super-smart computer assistant, can jack up productivity. BCG peeps using AI were cranking out more tasks, faster, and with higher quality. Sounds cool, right?
This frontier, it’s where AI’s a champ in some areas but kinda a dud in others. For the simple stuff, AI’s your guy, but throw in some human feels and complex issues, and you’re better off with good ol’ human brains.
Leaders need to be smart about mixing AI and humans, leading to an ideal blend of tech smarts and human touch for best results. This AI ride’s a long one, with lots of learning and adapting on the go. This study is stressing, it’s not just about the cool tech, but about the peeps using it. It’s all about syncing up human insight with AI’s powers, minimizing goof-ups, and ensuring one doesn’t overshadow the other.
OpenAI's Whisper is the most accurate AI speech recognition tool we've tried so far
OpenAI’s Whisper is a groundbreaking speech recognition tool that stands out for its accuracy in converting spoken words to text. It’s quite the handy tool for those looking to transcribe anything from interviews to videos.
Whisper is like a super-smart buddy that listens and jots down every word with precision. It’s made by OpenAI, and the cool thing is, they’ve made it open-source. This means any techie can tinker with it, build on it, and integrate it into their systems, like the ChatGPT.
So, how does it work? Without diving deep into the techy talk, it’s trained with a massive amount of data from the internet, breaks audio down into bite-sized chunks, converts it, and bam! You get the text. It understands various languages and can translate them to English too.
20 Midjourney styles to improve your creativity
This article is about using Midjourney, a bot, to make cool art using AI. You give it simple commands or "prompts," and it spits out unique and interesting visuals.
So, this bot, Midjourney, it's not a grammar whiz—simple and short does the trick. And the word choice matters! So, "gigantic" works better than "big," and "vibrant orange California poppies drawn with colored pencils" is a better prompt than a long, detailed one.
You can throw in some image URLs and other details in your prompts, and there are parameters you can use to change how your image turns out. So, if you want to tweak things like aspect ratios or models, that’s your tool. But remember, Midjourney isn’t a human, it won’t get every little nuance of language.
