Google is about to drop something MASSIVE…
Google seems to be gearing up for major announcements at the upcoming Google I/O on May 20th. Recently, they have rapidly released updates to their Gemini models, including the 2.5 Pro and experimental versions, hinting at the possible debut of Gemini 2.5 Ultra or Gemini 3.
Additionally, Google accidentally revealed "Material 3 Expressive," a UI overhaul for Android, and is working on Project Astra, a real-time video streaming app for Pixel devices.
Mistral released Mistral Medium 3, an AI model balancing performance and cost, outperforming rivals like Claude Sonnet 3.7, Llama 4 Maverick, and Cohere’s Command A on benchmarks. Priced at $0.40 per million input tokens and $2 per million output tokens, it supports cloud and self-hosted setups. Ideal for coding and STEM tasks, it’s available via Mistral’s API and Amazon’s Sagemaker, with support coming for Azure AI Foundry and Google’s Vertex AI.

Why It Matters
Cost-Efficient Performance: Mistral Medium 3 sets a new standard by offering top-tier AI performance at a fraction of the cost, making advanced AI more accessible for enterprises.
Versatile Deployment: The model’s ability to run on both cloud and self-hosted environments with just four GPUs lowers the barrier for adoption across various industries.
Strategic Integration: By supporting platforms like Amazon Sagemaker, Azure AI Foundry, and Google Vertex AI, Mistral Medium 3 positions itself as a versatile tool for enterprise applications, from coding to data analysis.
Figma introduced "Figma Make," a new AI feature that automates website and app creation by converting written descriptions or existing designs into code. Powered by Anthropic's Claude 3.7 Sonnet model, it targets premium users and supports design system integration. The tool aligns with the trend of "vibe-coding," similar to products from Cursor and Windsurf. Figma also announced "Figma Sites" to convert designs into working websites, enhancing its AI-driven design capabilities.
Why It Matters
Automation in Software Design: Figma Make leverages AI to simplify coding from design concepts, streamlining the development process and making it more accessible.
Advancing "Vibe-Coding" Technology: It positions Figma among leading tools in the emerging "vibe-coding" space, directly competing with Cursor and Windsurf.
AI Integration in Design Ecosystems: By embedding AI into design workflows, Figma highlights the trend of integrating creative tools with automated code generation, shaping the future of digital product development.
Apple is considering integrating AI-powered search engines into its Safari browser, potentially moving away from Google as the default search provider. This shift, revealed during a testimony by Eddy Cue, Apple's SVP of services, comes amid a legal dispute with Alphabet Inc. over a $20 billion-a-year deal. If the partnership is dissolved, it could significantly alter how iPhones and other Apple devices handle search, marking a major change in the tech landscape.
Why It Matters
AI-Driven Search Innovation: Apple's move signals a potential new era in AI-powered web browsing, challenging Google’s long-standing dominance in mobile search.
Strategic Shift in Tech Partnerships: If Apple breaks away from Google, it could reshape alliances in the AI and search engine ecosystem, influencing other tech giants' strategies.
Consumer Experience Evolution: Integrating AI search into Safari could offer more personalized and intelligent results, enhancing the user experience on Apple devices.

UnifiedReward-Think is a multimodal reward model that uses long chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning to improve decision accuracy in vision tasks. By fine-tuning with reinforcement learning and leveraging multimodal preference data, it enhances both reasoning depth and response quality. The model outperforms existing methods in visual understanding and image generation tasks, showcasing robust and accurate performance.
Absolute Zero introduces a new self-play learning method where an AI model generates and solves its own reasoning tasks without using external data. This approach, called Absolute Zero Reasoner (AZR), continuously evolves its reasoning skills through self-proposed challenges. Despite zero human input, AZR achieves state-of-the-art results in coding and math reasoning, proving the power of autonomous learning.
RADLADS is a method to convert traditional attention transformers into linear attention decoders efficiently. It uses a fraction of the data needed for original training, making it fast and cost-effective. Models converted with RADLADS maintain high performance while reducing computational costs. Open-source versions, including Qwen2.5 variants, are available on HuggingFace.
