Google's AI Chat Features to Make Technology Accessible to Everyone

Google CEO confirms integration of conversational AI in Google Search, making technology accessible to a wider audience

Today:

Google Will 'Absolutely' Bring AI Chat to Your Searches

Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that AI chat features will be coming to Google Search. The integration of conversational AI could make the technology accessible to a wider audience, moving it from an experimental project to an everyday tool. Google has been testing several AI-powered search products, including ones that allow people to ask follow-up questions to their original query. The company has also introduced AI features for its Workspace tools, including Gmail and Docs. Google did not provide a timeline for when the new AI features would be available in Search.

Microsoft's Rolling Out Edge's AI Image Generator to Everyone

Microsoft has announced that its AI image generator tool, DALL-E, will be "available on desktop for Edge users around the world" after integrating the technology into its Bing chatbot last month. The "Image Creator" will be accessible from Edge's sidebar, and users can generate specific visuals for social media posts or documents by typing in prompts. While it has previously been possible to generate images using OpenAI's DALL-E or Microsoft's Bing image creator site, putting it in Edge's sidebar makes it more accessible for users to ask AI to create pictures while they browse.

Microsoft Adds Bing AI Chat to SwiftKey Keyboard for Android

Microsoft has integrated its Bing AI bot into the latest beta version of its SwiftKey keyboard for Android, allowing users to search for information, request text rewrites and chat with the AI to generate specific content. The move follows the addition of the Bing AI chat tool to the Edge browser and Bing app for iOS/iPadOS and Android. The SwiftKey beta is available from Google Play, and offers three different features, including rewriting text and responding to questions and requests through chat. The app is also available on iOS, but it remains unclear whether an iOS beta version will be developed.

Microsoft Brings OpenAI-Powered AI Assistant Copilot to Every App in Its Microsoft 365 Productivity Suite

Microsoft has teamed up with OpenAI to introduce generative AI models in its Microsoft 365 productivity suite, with a Copilot in every app. The AI-powered feature is being tested by Microsoft corporate customers and will be powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 large language model, which can access business data from Microsoft Graph to generate content such as email content and meeting summaries. Copilot will appear in the app's user interface in different ways, offering help through prompts or small suggestions. The initiative brought hundreds of Microsoft employees together over several months to build something big in a short timeframe.

Meet TaskMatrix.AI: A Microsoft 'Super-AI' That Links Foundation Models With Millions of APIs to Perform Diverse Tasks

Microsoft research team proposes a new ecosystem called TaskMatrix.AI that connects foundation AI models with millions of APIs to perform diverse digital and physical tasks. This new approach has an API platform to store APIs with a consistent documentation format, making it easy for foundation models to access them. TaskMatrix.AI has a multimodal conversational foundation model, an API platform, an API selector, and an API executor. The team believes that TaskMatrix.AI can help build "an amazing future world, where productivity and creativity can reach new levels."

Walmart VP Confirms Retailer is Building on GPT-4, says Generative AI is 'As Big A Shift As Mobile'

Walmart, the world's largest retailer, is using OpenAI's GPT-4 to enhance its conversational AI capabilities. Desirée Gosby, vice president of emerging technology at Walmart Global Tech, said generative AI like GPT-4 will “be as big a shift as mobile, in terms of how our customers are going to expect to interact with us.” Walmart uses the models to enhance its natural language understanding and scale up its existing conversational experiences. The company now has nearly two dozen different experiences using the platform for natural language understanding capabilities, including a chatbot that a million Walmart associates interact with for customer care.

More Game Developers Openly Use Generative AI Despite Critism

Despite previous criticism, game developers are increasingly using generative AI tools, such as Unity, Epic Games, Roblox, and Ubisoft, to create new images, text, and sound based on prompts and training data. The use of generative AI has been viewed skeptically by some in the gaming community, who have questioned why it should be used when a human developer could do the same job. Nevertheless, creators appear to be moving past the criticism in favor of publicly disclosing their use of AI. Ubisoft's new AI writing program called Ghostwriter and Korean developer NCSoft's new AI-based facial animation and sound technology are two examples of such developments in the industry.

Newsbridge To Feature New MXT-1 Generative AI For Fast Video Indexing At NAB Show

Newsbridge has announced the launch of its new generative AI indexing technology, MXT-1, which can generate human-like descriptions of video content and index over 500 hours of video per minute. The technology, specifically trained on hundreds of thousands of hours of media, entertainment, and sports audiovisual content, uses multiple AI modalities to align video perception with language models. MXT-1 is a cost-efficient and faster way for media and sports content creators to search large collections of video. The technology can be trained and fine-tuned by an end-user with multimodal rules and a custom thesaurus.
