ChatGPT's New Plugins Will Deliver Real-Time Stats
OpenAI has introduced new plugins for its chatbot, ChatGPT, following the release of its GPT-4 engine and Whisper API in March. The plugins allow the chatbot to interact with third-party APIs and provide tailored responses for specific circumstances. This expands the bot's range of capabilities, enabling it to retrieve real-time information, knowledge-based information, and even take action on behalf of users. However, the company has stress-tested the plugins extensively to mitigate the risk of problematic responses. The plug-ins are still in early alpha, with limited availability for partner companies, but users can add their names to the waitlist to try them out.
We’ve added initial support for ChatGPT plugins — a protocol for developers to build tools for ChatGPT, with safety as a core design principle. Deploying iteratively (starting with a small number of users & developers) to learn from contact with reality: httpopenai.com/blog/chatgpt-p…p

ChatGPT + Code Interpreter = Magic
OpenAI is developing plugins for ChatGPT, including the Code Interpreter, which can generate code, analyze data, and output different forms of data, including animated GIFs. The Code Interpreter can run Python with basic libraries and analyze output to be used in another function. It can manipulate data ranging from csv data to images. Users can string different sections of code and use the output of one function to feed into another. The plugin’s versatility, including generating a sound illusion, converting images to ASCII images, generating QR codes, and producing calendar invites, could have implications for research and development.
Plugins for processing a video clip, no ffmpeg wizardry required. Actual use-case from today's launch.

Opera Browser gets ChatGPT with 'AI Prompts' and New Sidebar on Mac
Opera Browser has integrated OpenAI's generative AI technology into its desktop versions, with an early access offering called "AI Prompts." The feature includes prompts such as "Explain this article" or "Create a tweet" that make browsing quicker and more efficient. The new version also includes access to ChatGPT and ChatSonic in the browser's sidebar, allowing users to generate ideas, translations, and even music. The AI enhancements are available on Mac, Windows, and Linux for the standard Opera browser, and on Mac and Windows for Opera GX.
Tesla's Wireless Charging Platform does what AirPower Couldn't
Tesla has released a new wireless charging platform that offers an alternative to Apple's AirPower. The Tesla Wireless Charging Platform can charge up to three devices simultaneously, and its design is inspired by the automaker's Cybertruck. It weighs 1.6 pounds without its wedge-shaped magnetic stand and 2.3 pounds with it attached. Thirty overlapping coils arranged in four layers beneath its surface mean the charger can tap up to three coils to create the magnetic field required for charging. The technology is provided by FreePower, formerly known as Aira, which also created Nomad's old Base Station Pro charger. The Tesla charger is available for $300.
In San Francisco, some people wonder when A.I. will kill us all
The Misalignment Museum, a new art exhibition in San Francisco, is displaying works of art that address the possibility of an all-powerful artificial general intelligence, or AGI. The concept is that AGI will improve its capabilities faster than humans and create a feedback loop that ultimately results in unlimited brainpower. If the superpower AI is aligned with humans, it could be the end of hunger or work. But if it's misaligned, it could lead to dire consequences. The exhibit features art around the theme of "alignment" with increasingly powerful artificial intelligence and "heroes who tried to mitigate the problem by warning early." The exhibit runs through May 1 and is open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The exhibit is primarily funded by one anonymous donor, and Kim hopes to find enough donors to make it into a permanent exhibition.
We've found it: The Most Terrifying AI Image Prompt Ever
Stock photography of women laughing alone with salad has taken a disturbing turn with AI's interpretation of the meme. A Twitter user shared a series of AI-generated images created via the text-to-image prompt 'Woman laughing with salad', which have been viewed over 2 million times. These images are plagued by micro and macro oddities, including psychotic laughs and dungeony backdrops that suggest they belong in the Saw Cinematic Universe. The sheer amount of teeth on display is also a little freaky, with some women growing an entire extra row of gnashers. The controversy around AI images extends beyond their frequent weirdness, with questions over ethics and copyright closely following the tech.
